There is lots of great video in the public domain. Steamboat Willie. President McKinley’s inaugural address. San Francisco’s fire of 1906.

A lot of this is quality footage that can be helpful for an expressing an idea, emotion, or moment in your video project. There is a rich film history you can draw from and be inspired by.

The library of congress has a good library of video files here. You can use them for inspiration, ideas, clips, and quotes for your documentaries, commercials, television shows, and tiktok videos.

Finding the good parts of those videos can be quite difficult. You have to watch a lot of footage just to find the relevant clip. You don’t always know what you are looking for, you don’t know when you found it, and even if you find something good, you might not be ready for it at this exact moment.

It’s especially hard to find the good parts when you actually need them.

To solve that problem, we are releasing a public domain index on SeekSequence. SeekSequence makes it easy to search through a database of your footage, find clips of interest, and insert them directly on the timeline in Adobe Premiere.

Try out our public domain video search here.

The videos in the index are sourced from here, and they have more detailed information on copyright claims and citation requirements for specific films.
